Amazon Dash Buttons to shake up the UK market

UK Amazon Prime members can now reorder their favourite products at the press of a button using Amazon’s Wi-Fi connected device – Dash Button. Each Dash Button is paired with a product, which is selected during a really easy setup process. When supplies are running low, you simply press the Dash Button and the product is shipped and delivered.

Dash Button is managed through the Amazon App on Android and iOS smartphones, and works in any location with a Wi-Fi connection. Available for Prime members only, the device costs £4.99 which is deducted from the first order made through the gadget. To prevent multiple orders, the button is disabled until the order is delivered. Also, orders can be cancelled anytime through the Amazon app.

The Dash Button was first launched in the US last year and Amazon claims that in the last two months Dash Button placed orders have increased threefold.

Over 30 UK household brands have already signed up to Dash and brands such as Bosch, Siemens, Whirlpool and Samsung are keen to launch Internet of Things (IoT) connected appliances that can automatically order detergent or printer ink when the supplies are running low.

Dan Burnham, Head of Customer Success, comments: “We are entering a new age of digital shopping powered by connected devices and it won’t be long until we’ll see smart devices making purchases automatically on behalf of their owners.

IoT has already started transforming many business sectors and it’s now becoming a critical platform for retail and ecommerce as well. Retailers must move quickly and capitalise on this trend by providing an IoT shopping experience for their customers. Those that fail to embrace Programmatic Commerce will be left behind.

To take full advantage of these technological developments and the new trends shaking up the market, retailers need a smart ecommerce platform that efficiently manages listings, stock, supply and reports.”
